Our client suspected they had a failure on a taper roller bearing with 280T jacking weight.
TFL’s fitter’s installed 4no. 109T jacks to release the old bearing and extracted it using tirfors, along a skid plate. On inspection the bearing was found to have disintegrated and had to be removed from the workface using a mobile crane, so the jacks were locked off and jacking stools (already NDT inspected) were inserted as temporary supports.
A new bearing was sourced and installed using the same process but in reverse, all parts were replaced and a successful test run completed with a hi-torque wrench.
